Dental Clinic for Children with Special Needs

PROJECTS | Special Needs

Who you will help

Providing dental care for the special needs population is one of the biggest challenges in the special needs service system. Existing dental clinics in the community do not adequately train staff in how to deal with patients with special needs, and as a result, disabled patients encounter poor communication, impatience, and incomplete treatments. A disproportionately high number of special needs patients suffer from chronic dental disease, severe gum problems, increased pain and suffering, yet in most cases, they still resist going to the dentist.

Your donation will fund

The Ohel Asher Foundation's Peh Barie (Healthy Mouths) program is fundraising to open a dental clinic to especially serve patients with special needs. The personnel will be selected based on experience with and understanding of working for the disabled community. Patients will receive more attention, personal treatment programs, and ongoing maintenance to avoid future complex dental issues. The atmosphere will be warm and calm, applying tools and techniques known for calming higher anxiety and special needs patients. The clinic will serve around 220 patients annually, between 13-35 years of age.

Location

The clinic will be located in the Beit Shemesh, 30km west of Jerusalem, in an existing Ohel Asher building along with other existing rehabilitative services.
