Family Room in Respiratory Ward at Adi Jerusalem

Who you will help

For a child or young adult who cannot breathe without a ventilator, the rehabilitation care options today in Israel are bleak. They are faced with the possibility of spending a lifetime in a hospital or geriatric center with little to no rehabilitation or inspiration. ADI Jerusalem has pioneered rehabilitative and inclusive treatment for children with complex medical conditions, to receive nursing care in a home-like setting. Their success lies in the integration of seriously ill children in all regular activities, including educational, rehabilitative, vocational, recreational, and social programs, and ongoing interaction with family and community. With incredible success, the project has been duplicated in five other centers. ADI Jerusalem's Respiratory Ward will become a nurturing home for children and young adults who rely on ventilators. It's an ambitious vision - creating Israel's most innovative rehabilitation option for young people with medical conditions who need ongoing respiratory assistance.

About The Respiratory Ward

This Ward will be located on the newly built 6th floor of ADI Jerusalem's residential and rehabilitation center. Accommodating 24 children and young adults, it will consist of 17 private and semi-private rooms, a central nursing station with state-of-the-art 24-hour monitoring systems, an intensive care unit and a sheltered unit in the event of attacks. It will also include a physiotherapy room, two multi-purpose rooms for group activities and socializing, a family room, and a terrace. These spaces will help facilitate greater integration and growth to help children and young adults to thrive. Under this 1,200 square meter ward, the existing building will also be adapted to accommodate the new floor, an elevator, additional infrastructure support and parking spaces.
