In Sderot, a city struggling with socioeconomic challenges exacerbated by its proximity to Gaza, life for the elderly can be diffcult even in the best circumstances where there is a diminishing quality of life. Many of the elderly population of Sderot suffer from loneliness and neglect, as well as the stress that comes from the security situation in Gaza. The socioeconomic position of many of the elderly population in Sderot also creates a barrier to receiving the proper day to day care that many of them need, as well as basics like proper nutrition, prayer, exercise, and cognitive stimulation.

A relaxing space to nurture creativity and engage in enjoyable activities to help cognitive maintenance. The Sderot Centre for the Elderly is creating a safe and nurturing space for the elderly population of Sderot. Subsidized by the Bituach Leumi, the centre has levels from 1-6 depending on the person's need, offering activities and care that they would struggle to receive otherwise. The centre also offers a communal environment where people can gather and socialize in a fun and engaging setting. Offering multiple activities and opportunities to keep their minds sharp and have fun while making new friends.
