Security Shelters at Kishor - Kishorit

PROJECTS | Special Needs

Who you will help

Kishorit is an extraordinary special-needs community where 180 adults with developmental disabilities live hand in hand with the thriving Kibbutz Kishor. In a revolutionary rehabilitation model, every community member is engaged in meaningful employment on behalf of the community, balanced by a rich social life of sports, arts, shared cooking and celebrations. Members choose where they work: among the businesses in Kibbutz Kishor or as part of a communal workforce. Everyone contributes according to their ability. This inclusive model has led to growth for the Kibbutz as more members build their homes and expand the community. However, Kishorit is approximately 15 km from the Lebanese border and has been the target of rocket fires and other attacks. A 2019 inspection found that it was essential to add ten (10) additional shelters to ensure that everyone within the 50-acre area is safe in case of an attack. Everyone must be within 30 seconds of a shelter - anything further presents unacceptable risks for the residents and staff.

Your donation will fund

Each new shelter (55 sq m) can safely shelter up to 11 adults. The shelter will be built close to workplaces which currently lie on the periphery of the Kibbutz, far from existing shelters. Shelters will be accessible for members with mobility devices, visual impairments, and cognitive challenges. The entrance to the shelter will feature a plaque recognizing the donors.

Location

Kishor is northwest of Karmiel in the Western Galilee area
